A Glance at the History of Dubai

United Arab Emirates

A glance at the history of Dubai will show us that what we now know as the United Arab Emirates (of  which the Dubai emirate is part of) was only formed back in 1971. Prior to that, the United Kingdom or  Britain had a perpetual maritime truce with the Trucial Sheikhdoms in 1853 so Britain was the overall  political authority in the area. That is why prior to 1971, these Arabian sheikhdoms were known as the  Trucial States.

Al Maktoum dynasty

The Al Maktoum dynasty, as we can see when we take a glance at the history of Dubai, are descendants  of the powerful Bedouin Bani Yas tribe which were very influential in the region. It was only in 1833 that  around 800 Bani Yas tribesmen were able to take over what is now Dubai. That was the year that the Al  Maktoum dynasty was formally established as the ruling dynasty of Dubai.
